Everything about The Planetary Collegium totally explained

The Planetary Collegium is a research center where artists, theoreticians and scholars from many parts of the world meet to develop their research into new media arts. The hub of the Collegium is based in the University of Plymouth, with nodes in Zurich, Milan and Beijing. This network provides support for research at the highest level. The PhD is awarded by the University of Plymouth.

Transdisciplinary Context of Research

Within the context of transdisciplinarity and syncretism, the Collegium promotes "the integration of art, science, technology, and consciousness research within a post-biological culture". Founded in 1994 by Roy Ascott, the program changed its name in 2003 from CAiiA-STAR (as originally established in the University of Wales Newport) to the Planetary Collegium (with Ascott as president) at its new base in the University of Plymouth, England, where Ascott is the Professor of Technoetic Arts. It has attracted an impressive number of internationally well-established new media artists, musicians, performers, designers, architects, theorists and scholars involved in doctoral and post-doctoral research. With its geographically dispersed members and frequent research sessions and public conferences in the Americas, Europe and the Far East, it constitutes a worldwide research community. The Collegium's Board is advised by its New Knowledge Advisory Board comprising Honorary Members James Gimzewski, Pierre Lévy, Roger Malina; Louise Poissant; Thomas S. Ray; Marilyn Schlitz, and Barbara Maria Stafford

Location

The administrative centre of the Collegium is situated in the Faculty of Technology, School of Computing, Communications and Electronics, University of Plymouth, England. There, the CAiiA-Hub is directed by Professor Ascott.
